Render Retreat

More information about Render

What is Render?

Render is a triennial retreat organized by the Partnership of Asian American Churches in Texas (PAACT) that aims to support and encourage English-speaking Asian-Americans in the pursuit of vocational ministry and cast a vision for ministry in the local church in the US or beyond.

Who Should Attend?

Render is for those that are still thinking about full-time ministry as a potential option and for those who feel called to vocational ministry and have begun preparations. This retreat is an opportunity to learn and prepare for full-time ministry, whether that’s serving in the local church within the US or on the mission field.

Distinctive of Render

There is a low mentor-attendee ratio, about 1:3. The mentors are mostly pastors and ministers serving within Chinese heritage churches or their spouses. Mentors are able to give the Render attendees a realistic picture of what local church ministry involves, especially in an immigrant church context.

Workshops

Speakers:
Pastor Andrew Bywaters | Pastor Henry Ow

A key part of your journey into vocational ministry will be your seminary education. The seminary you choose will not only shape your theology and philosophy of ministry, but could play a key role even in where you find future employment. So how do you choose the right one? What are the criteria you should use in evaluating seminary options? This workshop will discuss how to navigate these questions in order that with God’s help you will find the seminary most suitable for the ministry God may be calling you into.
Speakers:
Pastor Gaylord Tsuei

There is a stream of thinking that creeps into our minds, hearts, and yes, our souls. The idea that faithfully serving God involves doing more, serving more, and loving more. However, is there a limit? Matthew 16:26 says, “For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his soul? Or what shall a man give in return for his soul?” What does this mean for us as followers of Christ, and leaders in His Church? God’s Word has answers we can learn to help us minister in a way that causes us to experience the promise of Jesus in Matthew 11: “Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I WILL give you REST…and you will find REST for your SOULS.”
Speakers:
Pastor Matt Connally

This is a dangerous calling for even the best of sinners. And remember that most of Jesus’ enemies—as well as his disciples’ persecutors—were intensely religious people, so sometimes we must use a battering ram to break doors down. Furthermore, it’s also tedious work: most of the churches in the New Testament were struggling to stay healthy. So how do you know when the Lord is calling you to serve full-time with a church?
Speakers:
Vicky Lim

Do you sometimes wonder how you can talk about God's goodness to the people around you? Do you struggle to live life by faith? Do you often wonder if you are doing the right thing for God? Perhaps you would like to consider going on a short-term or mid-term mission trip? Or, perhaps you are already considering a full-time missionary life. This workshop will help you prepare for your next possible steps of a challenging, but phenomenal journey.
Speakers:
Pastor Josh Aguas

How do ministry leaders navigate the inevitable temptations and challenges of lust, pride, envy, fear of man, and failure as we seek to be faithful to the Lord? This workshop will through some Scriptures, best practices, and additional resources that are helpful in the first few years of pastoral ministry.
Speakers:
Pastor David Hsu | Pastor David Tang

Serving in the Chinese heritage church (CHC) does not have to be a frightening or painful calling. In this workshop, we will examine both the challenges and beauties of ministry in the CHC, sharing stories and casting a vision for thriving missional ministry in the CHC.
