Render Retreat

More information about Render

What is Render?

Render is a triennial retreat organized by the Partnership of Asian American Churches in Texas (PAACT) that aims to support and encourage English-speaking Asian-Americans in the pursuit of vocational ministry and cast a vision for ministry in the local church in the US or beyond.

Who Should Attend?

Render is for those that are still thinking about full-time ministry as a potential option and for those who feel called to vocational ministry and have begun preparations. This retreat is an opportunity to learn and prepare for full-time ministry, whether that’s serving in the local church within the US or on the mission field.

Distinctive of Render

There is a low mentor-attendee ratio, about 1:3. The mentors are mostly pastors and ministers serving within Chinese heritage churches or their spouses. Mentors are able to give the Render attendees a realistic picture of what local church ministry involves, especially in an immigrant church context.

Workshops

Speakers:
Pastor David Tang

A key part of your journey into vocational ministry will be your seminary education. The seminary you choose will not only shape your theology and philosophy of ministry, but could play a key role even in where you find future employment. So how do you choose the right one? What are the criteria you should use in evaluating seminary options? This workshop will discuss how to navigate these questions in order that with God’s help you will find the seminary most suitable for the ministry God may be calling you into.
Speakers:
Pastor Jason Tarn

This workshop is for those who are beginning to explore whether God may be calling them toward vocational ministry. Grounded in Scripture, this workshop will consider what a call to ministry can look like, how to discern it wisely within the church community, and how to navigate potential roadblocks (ie. lack of support from parents or a spouse, etc). Participants will also gain practical next steps for continuing to prayerfully explore this path.
Speakers:
TBD

While this workshop does not aim to resolve the theological debates, the goal is to create a non-polarizing space to explore the opportunities and challenges women may encounter as they discern a calling into vocational ministry. Together, we will discuss the realities of ministry leadership and cultural expectations—particularly in Chinese heritage churches—as well as questions women may have navigating the intersection of ministry, marriage, and motherhood.
Speakers:
Pastor Wai Lim and Nancy

Do you sometimes wonder how you can talk about God's goodness to the people around you? Do you struggle to live life by faith? Do you often wonder if you are doing the right thing for God? Perhaps you would like to consider going on a short-term or mid-term mission trip? Or, perhaps you are already considering a full-time missionary life. This workshop will help you prepare for your next possible steps of a challenging, but phenomenal journey.
Speakers:
Pastor Allan Tsai and Pastor Nathan Wang

How do ministry leaders navigate the inevitable temptations and challenges of lust, pride, envy, fear of man, and failure as we seek to be faithful to the Lord? This workshop will through some Scriptures, best practices, and additional resources that are helpful in the first few years of pastoral ministry.
